Adopted Leo not wanting to eat and was a

Andrea_1980 Jan 08, 2008 07:55 PM

I got a Leo that is the size of a hatchling from a lady at a pet store who was trying to give it away. It was seriously underweight to the point you could practically see right through it. (I got it 1/6/07)That night it ate two small crickets and one or two larger than that. The lady and her husband were feeding it meal worms. Since then I can't get it to eat. It has only went poop twice since three times since then. The first time it was very hard and the last (after it ate the crickets.) it was almost liquid. When I look at it's underbelly I notice it is not as transparent, but I can see the heads of the larger of the crickets. Have I caused it to become impacted again? What can I do to help it pass the heads. Currently I am giving it a diet of small amounts of kick start and water(just started tonight.). I have not found any vets that specialize in reptiles in my area. Please any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Andrea

1-6-07? I'm surprised you kept a hatchling alive on 4 crickets for over a year.

But, in case you meant '08, there is still hope, as that was only 2 days ago!

The gecko may very well be stressed. It has changed living areas.

Can you let us in on any information regarding it's enclosure? Heat? Hides?

vanilla ensure worked wonders for my girl, and saved her life. Alot of people recommend it on here. Just some drops on the nose, she will lick it up most likely. will help get strength up, and keep nutrients in her until she feels like eating again. I almost lost mine, but she started feeling better and started eating one day after 8-9 months and hasnt stopped yet.. someone correct me if i've made a mistake on anything.

Yup, Vanilla flavored ensure (an adult supplemental beverage found at food stores usually near the vitamins or the diet drinks.) As much as it will take dripped on the nose.

You are seeing cricket heads? Well defined cricket heads? That's weird and get some ensure into the little one and try to find a vet, but at that age you may have few options.

Good luck, here's hoping.

PS I love seeing Nacho, it keeps me posting on bad days, look at the beginnings of that fat little tail! Sometimes we win against the odds! Just a good feeling.

Have you tried it with Waxworms? I would use them to also help build it's weight up suplimenting them with a good vitamin and mineral suppliment.

I want to thank everyone for their advice, however the little guy did not make it. It just can not be stressed enough to research a pet before you get it. Proper research would prevent many problems like the one I had with this baby.
Again I thank you all (including chat friends),
Andrea
