Hydroponic Terrarium Books?

ADWE Jan 09, 2008 09:35 AM

Was first gonna ask for suggestions on how to set-up a hydroponic system correctly, but then realized i know very little about hydroponic systems, other the the ones that help you produce top quality "Vegetation". haha. So now my question is what are some good books explaining these systems, how to set them up and operate them! Any leads would be appreciated! Thanks

p.s. The enclosure will be for my Amazon Tree Boa!

I don't know of any books for terrarium hydroponics. I've always thought hydroponics was for growing plants without soil. If you have books for growing good vegetation in hydroponics then the same rules would probably apply. I've never tried it in a terrarium, most reptiles destroy the planyt life unless it's sokmething very hardy. What exactly is it your trying to set up? A tank with an amazon boa and plants with no soil?

I'm looking to build myself a naturalistic terrarium for my amazon tree boa that incorporates real plants and a filtered water feature such as a waterfall and/or a pond! i'm not worried about him destroying the plants as he is arboreal and hasn't damaged the plants he is living with now. These are a couple of extremely nice examples and mine won't be on such a large scale!

Sorry for giving links, but i'm not down with posting other peoples pics on websites!

Mine will be close to the size of the last example and similar in look!

Any supestions would be great!

I think what you want to build is most frequently called a paludarium. They are very popular in Europe. I don't believe the plant growth necessarily has to be maintained hydroponically in palurdaria but I'm not sure.

At any rate, if you have not done so already, spend some time on google with the terms paludaria and paludarium. You might also use google's language tools to search for some European web sites.

This sounds like it will be an awesome cage. Keep us posted.
