For zebra jungles you should try Paul Harris, the guy that proved them out. He has the best selection

There are no albino coastals, just albino Darwin's and albino crosses, both at moreliainc.

Hey Ron, Just to let you know, Yes i had a bit of confusion with the subspecies, however, there are no albino crosses, or albinos, with the exception of his breeding pair. He does have Het albino crosses (With Jaguars).

So my next question is what sounds better, albino Jaguar darwin Hets or just waiting......

You are correct, he only has het crosses for sale. I've seen the babies at shows here. AS to what sounds better, that's up to you I'm not so sure an albino jag will look better than a nice normal jag. But we''ll see in a few years.
Personally I have no interest in the albino crosses, I'd much rather have some pure (het) albino Darwins.

Yeah the darwins sound nice in there own way however the jag gene would be quite interesting to see how it affects the albino gene.

Thanks for the help

Also where in the states have you seen these babies?

Hey Ron, if your so into the pure breds without crossing, whats with that Jungle Jag's, and the Ij Jags?

Do they come out better than a normal Jag?

I'm not dead set against crossing I would just prefer pure (albino) Darwin's. Some of the normal Darwin's I have seen pics of are stunning in their own right.
I got my Jungle jags in a good trade, wouldn't have bought them for the price they were going for then. And I liked the look of IJ jags I had seen.
There's a place for everything in my house, pure or cross, as long as I like the look of them
And BTW I am in Europe, that's where I saw the het albino's at quite few shows. They weren't exactly selling like hotcakes

Well, I guess you could call my A-Mel Jungle sort of an albino, but her Mommy was a Carpondro. I need to post her pic again.

That is a very pretty animal. Am I correct in thinking that this is still a young animal? to me it looks like this color is a result of its GTP heritage, like a yellow GTP baby. It it is a real amelanistic animal it should have red eyes. It'll be interesting to see what it looks like in a year or two.

Ron, the problem is the other 4 siblings all look different Most of the higher end dealers who have seen it tend to go amel, but with the GTP genes, I have no what any of them will look like. That's the fun part

I'm not surprised they all look different, if you make a cross between a cross (carpondro) and another animal (jungle), the cross can pass on very different mixes of genes. While you would call the offspring 25% GTP, the actual %age may be between 0 and 50, with an average of 25.
But you may be right, like I said its difficult to see from a pic whether it actually is amel or not. Whatever it is, it IS pretty and it'll be fun to see it develop. Please keep us posted.

Jaykis Jan 20, 2008 03:50 PM

I agree. Some look like baby carpets in head shape, and one looks like a gtp in head shape. Some perch, some don't. Two looked like baby jungles, but who knows what they'll turn into?

I'm going to try again this year with the same pair. And size was on the gtp end, with most eggs smaller and birth weights around 10-11 grams.

Even though, I like your amel jungle capondro, Id much rather have a carpet albino, Its a totally different animal, besides it could just be the GTP color phase working its magic for you.

I'd rather have the albino too, but part of the mystique of these babies is if they'll change, or not. Besides, I can't afford the albino.
