Oldest Captive Collared

the4thmonkey Jan 09, 2008 04:40 PM

I am interested in hearing how long collareds have lived in captivity. Tell me about your experiences, whether the animal is still living or not. I am particularly interested in hearing from those who have had the collared since it was a hatchling and know with certainty it's age. If this is not possible, please tell me how long your collared lived and your guess at it's age when acquired. And please add details about their reproductivity and whether or not you brumated them. Thanks

To the best of my knowledge, the oldest one known goes by the name of Oldcrota. His exact age is a mystery. He has reproduced at least twice but was never brumated. Hope this helps.

These are 2 wonderful , amazing males that found their way to my house

One who SADLY just left this world last year you all know was KINKY, a yellowhead male that came to me through an old forum Pal, Don C. He had bought a group of collareds that needed some major TLC (calcium problems) for a person who had been doing research on the Utah group for 5 years.

Anyway when sent to me , KINKY was said to be an older gent at at least 5 years of age with MBD that left him with a terribly kinked tail and some leg issues.
I was fortunite enough to have had that special guy in my life for another 6 years. Which wouLD have made him approx 11 years old . He walked like an older animal , but was still a beauty!

2. The Amazing KONG, this BIG guy had to have been an older boy when John Eddington wrangled him, and sent him to me :0) He was huge then (older) I wish I knew just how old, but he had seen some action in his days with some scars from fighting, and I assume protecting his turf.

** This AWESOME KING (KONG)and friend of mine, at his older age in the wild came to live with me for another 5 years now, and I HOPE and Pray I can say I have him in another FIVE

SO Valerie, I know 10 years and 11 years old is definitely not to uncommon.

Kinky left me last season 2007

What is the oldest that you know of ... exactly? Not that I question your sources, but, what is your oldest "hatched it myself or aquired it as a hatchling?" I am just curious about this and wish others would post their experiences here.

I'm sorry about Kinky and the others that passed in '07. We are still saddened by the loss of Mariah a couple of weeks ago. But it is good to know that she left a few babies in this world.

I have 6 to 8 year olds that I got as juvies.

It's a tough question as far as my own hatchlings as in the beginning I would usually sell the offspring(so my hubby would not think I was going to keep everything I bred) lol.

So it's only been in the past few years I have kept some of my offspring here and there. (Especially vestigium) I have a few 2 and 3 year olds and younger.

My oldest collared lived to be 11 years old and I hatched her out of the egg. She was blind in one eye and once laid 6 clutches in one season for a total of 32 eggs.
