New Pepper photo

brhaco Jan 09, 2008 06:08 PM

Thought some of you might be interested in a new pic of my Greg Maxwell Pepper X Merauke Outcross animal (06 hatch). Ithink the color change is just about over with. The pic is pretty accurate, save that a lot of the blue is washed out for some reason-wherever you see blue, imagine it being more intense ....

The first pic is my female Biak from '05. Her yellow is so bright it plays havoc with the meter on my camera-my New Years resolution is to get a good DSLR this year!

Pepper is second!

Thanks Jason! No possibility oif offspring from those two-they're both females! I'll proably end up doing a breeding loan with the Pepper animal-perhaps to one of her brothers....

Brad , has anyone proposed a mechanism for inheritance of the pepper look yet?

BTW, Dick Deuel sent me an email a few weeks ago. He's doing well. I guess he's one of the people that visit the king forum on occasion but doesn't post. He said he saw one of my pics and reached me that way. Boy the early- mid 90's were good for the UHA...

peace,

Dave-

No strict mechanism as of yet. With the exception of Damon's albinos, so far all the other "appearance abnormalities" in GTPs seem to be line-bred traits rather than straight mendelian recessives or co-doms. Makes for some interesting breeding challenges. BTW-that Pepper baby posted above is also a 50% possible het albino ...

That's great you heard from Dick-he sort of dropped off the face of the earth! Tell him I said hi.

How is the UHA doing lately? Any improvements? The mid 90s were certainly the "golden years"!

I also love the Pepper x Merauke OC pairing that Greg did and have a couple different babies from the same male, different breedings. But, Greg's male is not proven yet to be a carrier of the albino gene and is only 50% himself. Until he's proven I don't believe we can call his progeny 50% possibles. If he does prove himself out (and he may this year being bred to his daughter so fingers are crossed) then all of our babies from him will bump up to 50% possibles

Mike-

Exactly the model I'm considering. I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts on it after you've had time to play around with it a bit. I'm sure you'll be posting some shots?
