cresteds changing color?

myotismn Jan 09, 2008 06:37 PM

The other week I was in a pet store that had two crested geckos for sale. Both were females that the pet store said were about 9 months old. One was a white/ light gray dalmation. I bought this one and put her in a tank with another female who I have for several months that is also about 9 months old. A week later I have noticed that the new one is no longer the white/ light grey color and is orange. I feed them Repashy diet and crickets, the same as the pet store said they fed her. I have other cresteds and know that they can be lighter in color before they shed, but nothing like this. Anyone know why this might be or seen this happen?

Well, I'm going to go out on a limb, but if you've read how to take care of cresteds surely you've encountered mention of their state known as "fired up" which is, I'm guessing what you are seeing as 9 months the color should be set.

For most geckos (sometimes I think all by mine) the color change can be dramatic and depends on mood mostly, but temperature and environment conditions play a role. It is not unusual for drastic color changes. Then again, some are like mine and go from cream to white, not a huge change.

(That or she's a lazy bum who's never been fired up.)

Perhaps someone here with a dramatic fired state could post?

warnersister makes a good point. If your new gecko has any disease/parasites/etc, its cagemate now likely has them too.
