pink belly

ozzypythons Jan 10, 2008 11:43 AM

Wondering if this is normal... one of my ball pythons right before he sheds his belly turns pink. He's had 3 sheds since we've had him and has done it every time. Before and after the shed he seems to be healthy and his belly is white. Any ideas?

I don't think its scale rot because its not a patch of his belly, its the whole underside.

Is it, for lack of a better word like an "opal" kind of reflective pink or a deep solid pink?

I have several that I've noticed do that too. That's how I can tell they're going to shed half the time.

Our tiger retic's entire body gets a pink hue when she's about to shed.

Hi,.... Yep the Pink Belly you have shown is the "normal" one and occurs in the shedding process on some animals. I have a Yellow belly het ivory that turns blazing pink orange on his belly..... plus a couple of others too...... IN true belly rot it often looks pink with freckles of red and often the old skin has fluid under it so it is "puffed" up a little bit too. The Belly rot is caused by wet, dirty, and warm conditions. I have had it a couple of times on my BPs when they dumped their water bowl in a Sterlite after they pee-ed on the paper. Most often it resolves on its own after a shed or 2 in very clean conditions.................Lee van Hyfte
