How normal is this?

sean1976 Jan 10, 2008 07:12 PM

I was checking in on my cooled male today and noticed some of his saddle scales are now white. It is not very much and I only saw varying degrees of it on three or four saddles but it still surprised me. Is it normal for a certain amount of scales to turn white temporarily or after a certain age?

Here's some pics including a picture of the largest white spot, a head shot, and a body shot that is pretty close to his actual colors.

Oh and the white is much more white then it appears in the picture. In the picture you can see the shape for the most part but for some reason the picture seems to have washed it out with orange tinting.

Thanks for any info,

Sean.

It's about time you take some pics he is looking great and about how long do you think he is? I don't know anything about the white scales but it looks cool from where I'm sitting

Thanks for the compliments
I definitely like his appearance. As far as length he is at least over four feet since he can stretch the full length of the 60 gallon enclosure and still have some left over. If I was to guess I'd say about 5 feet or so. The female I have is longer and much thicker. While the female has some scales in the edges of her saddles that are a lighter shade of the saddle coloration she does not have any that are actually white or off white. mainly I'm just curious to know whether they will go back to normal color and if this is something to expect occassionally in BRB's or if it is more of a fluke.

In that case I won't worry about it.

Out of curiosity though, do the scale color changes normally change back or stay changed? Relatively speaking of course.

Yes to both. Some stay changed and some change back to original colors.
