Morelia cages

jscrick Jan 10, 2008 07:34 PM

What are the best cages for Carpet Pythons?
Brands and models?
Tubs and Racks OK? Till what age?
Plan on doing 3 or 4 lines starting this year.
Thanks,
jsc

Hey John, glad to see you'll be working with Morelia. Which ones are you working with? Show pics.....I keep my larger Coastals in AP cages 48x24x15 with the basking shelf, and they seem plenty big. I really like them. I think with the smaller Jungles and Irian Jayas, at least the males, you could probably get away fine with the 36x24x15 with the shelf...The babies I keep in 15 quart sterilites and then move them to 32 quarts close to a year old. Right now I'm using AP's econo-rack, which fits both those sizes, but I'm debating whether I like the heating option it comes with. It's just one line of heat cable at the very back of the tub, and I think I'd prefer a broader heat spot...I've attached photos of my Coastal Jag Sib on the shelf and, as you can see, the boas like the shelves too!

This is the only Morelia I've got right now ('07 1.1).

I'm looking to get more. Email me for the list.

I have a couple of 48" AP cages. Real nice.

Honestly, It really all depends on what carpet you get. If its a Iran Jaya, Diamond, Jungle, Coastal, or Bredli, (others available, just rarely) They all reach different sizes, and require (almost the same for a few species) different temperatures and humidity levels, Id strongly look into what Species id be working with and then look for the cages, Personally I don't use vision cages however some people love them, there light, easy to clean, can work out very well. Hope it works out for you, there by far the best snakes I've Had and i wouldn't give up mine for anything.

Have you looked into other Morelia? There are a few other species that you can work with that are just simply amazing. Liasis is another good group to work with.

Wish you the best of luck and happy herping.
