Reply from below.

Here's a couple belly shots like you requested.

That was a beauty of a Thayeri you posted! Very nice!

Thanks for the belly shot pics. And thanks for the compliment on the pic of the "old-timer" I used to have.

I see several scenarios of combinations in the one you have. But it's really impossible to say exactly what combo it is with any certainty. Given the variability of thayeri to begin with(thus the name variable King), and picturing other combinations of things in my head, it could be quite a few. Also, in addition to that, you have to consider what percentages of what snakes are involved that even complicate things further. For example, a pyro x thayery combo that was back-bred once or twice to thayeri again. Not only THAT Diego, but the whole mexican complex as a whole in the hobby has been "messed with" alot in recent years, so who knows what someones idea REALLY is as to what they are looking at. It sort of depends on what someone is "used" to seeing in the hobby.

Tight band-counts of pyro(or even zonata), along with the vivid red then crossed into ANY of the mexicana "complex" could produce examples like you posted. I was sort of expecting more dark on the belly from any knoblochi influence, but like I said before, it all depends on the percentages of these combinations, and that is impossible to guess on my part.

You CAN be quite sure however, that it is a ssp. of pyro x mexicana complex, meaning ANY of these,......alterna, mex-mex, greeri, or thayeri.

I would try to do some "detective work", starting with your buddy, and go down the line from there, you may, or may NOT get to the bottom of it.

One thing is ABSOLUTELY certain,.....it's gorgeous!..LOL

take care buddy!, ~Doug

Thanks Doug. I probably won't ever know for sure, but I'm ok with that.

I'll just file him away into the "Pet Snake" category and keep him from breeding. He's got a great temperament and beautiful colors, so I don't mind.

Not like I need more babies to feed in the summer anyway..
