breeding questions

what is the average time for a male to be with a female before he shows no interest? how long is it that you notice ovulation after he shows no interest?

My 20mo old male was with two different females the small of the two he was with longer and showed interest with her longer as well. the bigger one he was with for just a few days before he stopped courting and was what looked like running to find a way out. Just curious if I should be expecting babies by the end of the summer/fall.

Going strictly off of the limited info you gave, sounds like the smaller female has a chance at being gravid while the larger ones chances are quite slim. In the instances where I have clearly seen ovulation, the male seems to lose interest withing days, long before the post ovulation shed which is sometime around three weeks later (give or take).

Has your smaller female shown signs of being gravid?

Unless the larger one was right at the ready to breed point when you introduced the male, would not have happened that quick. I believe it could happen though. I had a female BRB out on breeding loan and the male was only with her for one night, full on copulation and wham, bam, thank you ma'am he was done with her, she took and delivered a litter of 17 babies. Not bad for a first time mom.

Oh yeah, with typical POS at 3 weeks, parturition at POS + 105 days, that's 18 weeks. so before summer if at all. Again, based on total lack of interest by the male.

Not an expert by any means, maybe others will have better info??

I put my 18 month old Hog in with some bigger females and he freaked out. He was hissing and striking and doing everything he could to get out. Never behaved like that before. He wasn't ready, that's for sure.
My good male goes at it for about 12 hours then takes a break for about 12 hours. I've been taking him out for a break every few days when he looses interest. He goes at it again when put back in with a female. He hasn't eaten a good meal in more than a month now.
