Locality L.t. amaura series

Nathan Wells Jan 11, 2008 04:54 PM

Here is a series of some nice locality Louisiana milks for all of you to see. Besides keeping and maintaining a large collection of triangulum and locality L. alterna, my true passion has always been for fieldherping. There is nothing more memorable than traveling to locations that you only read or hear about to discover your favorite herps in the natural elements. Luckily for me though, I live in an area where these amaura can be quite common and don't really have to travel very far to find a few when conditions are right. Many thanks to my herping buddy Robert Edwards for taking the time to photograph most of the animals he and I find and for allowing me to post his pictures.

First, let's take a walk...

Great shots of some great animals Nathan! It makes me wish there were more than garter snakes and toads to catch here!!

Love the Lay Z Boy pic too!

Thanks Mike. Again, my friend Robert Edwards took most of the pictures but agreed to let me post them so you locality nuts could see a few. You need to hire a babysitter and make it down to "alternaland" this year!!
So you can walk in cool places like this.....

and find awesome things like this......

Friggin' awesome, Nate! That's an amazing series. It's not often that anyone even posts an amaura, let alone a stunning array of them! Thanks for sharing that with us.

Nathan, fantastic post! I love seeing all those amaura. I'm more of a field herper too, and amaura was something I'd always wanted to see. Robert was nice enough to put me on this one
in Montgomery Co., TX.

Thanks Scott. That's a beautiful amaura!! So clean and the red is really nice. Did that come from the secret tin pile?
Nathan

milksandbeer Jan 12, 2008 03:02 AM

That animal was found across the road from the tin pile, but yes, in that area.

Geez, so much for them being "WICKED HAAD" to find huh? Nice post!

Nathan Wells Jan 11, 2008 09:35 PM

No, not necessarily Jeff. Even though our county is rather large, the populations and ranges of these guys are rather spotty. In some areas towards the east the numbers that can be found in a single year can be incredible while only a few will turn up here and there throughout the rest of the county. It's just being in the right place at the right time.

But dont you LOVE when you finally GET IT(when finding em becomes EASY)?? In the spring now I can look at a weather pattern or even just be walking outside and FEEL that its a great time to find em. Once you know this though it really makes it hard to struggle lifting TONS of [bleep] all day just to find 1....know what I mean? OK, getting old and fat has something to do with it too, lol. NO, its nothing I want to share. I think thats reserved for people who can find the secret out themselves. There should never be an excuse for not getting out in the field. I look around my snake room and am sometimes disgusted by the number of morphs.....progress.....

Thanks Gerrit, hopefully we can find that guy a little lady this year. Oh and yes, I did figure out who got the nelsoni from you. Although he didn't ever come across as the transvestite looking table dancin' type..as you described him. LOL!
