Very Sad News

I wanted to let everyone here know that I lost my beloved Tashmoo (hybrid) over the weekend. She had been off her food for months and and xray last month showed eggs. When she began to act odd Friday I got concerned and took her in Sat for an xray. The eggs were gone on the xray. The vet aspirated some pinkish fluid from her abdomen so we decided he needed to go in and see what was going on. When he got in there not only was she full of that fluid but there were, in fact, 3 shelled eggs and 3 partially formed follicles. He didnt spay her but cleaned her all out and removed the follicles and eggs. I was very relieved to find out later that she woke up from the anesthesia and was breathing on her own. Unfortunately she died overnight when her lungs filled up with blood. The vet is mystefied as to why that happened and sent some tissue off for anaylsis. I fear that the fluid and yolk material were in there for so long that it damaged the lung somehow. He wasnt even working near the lungs. Either that or something in the anesthesia and breathing bag went awry. Either way I should have had her spayed a month ago after she already had been off her food for over 8 weeks.

This has been like losing a dog. Very devastating. Her personality had grown so much since I had all that trouble with her aggression the first year. She taught me what "dog tame" really meant.

She is sadly missed.

Carole

PS in hindsight we should have done a spay a lot sooner. Please dont wait if this happens to you. Its not worth the heartache.

I know what your are going through. The same thing happened to my female green ig that I had for about 7 years. I always wanted to spay her, and never got around to it. I was heartbroken for a very long time. She took a piece of my heart with her.

At least she is no longer in pain.

It sounds like the unpassed eggs may have gone bad and caused a bad bacterial infection inside that pretty much "poisoned" her bloodstream to the point that egg removal was too late. Buy a new cyclura to help you get over and forget the old one.------M

Is it just me or is this guy completely rude? Forget the old one? Nice, very nice. Thanks a bunch.

I didn't mean it to sound rude, I just know that when someone looses a pet, another pet is usually the only cure for sadness whether it is a dog, cat or reptile. I'm sorry if my comment struck a wrong cord. When or if you decide to get another cyclura, let me know and I can steer you to some good quality breeders.

Hi Mark, thanks for the apology. I had seen you posting on here and didnt think that was the way you are. I suspect it just came out wrong.

Actually I am considering a couple of options for keeping my mind off of the loss of Tashmoo. I will let everyone know if I settle on one of them.

Oh Carole.....I am sorry to hear about Tamshoo! :0( I enjoyed hearing about her, she was a lovely girl and had indeed developed a sweet personality thanks to your persistence and love.

This definitely puts a damper on my excitement about putting a deposit down for one of Davids' 2003 hybrid hatchlings. I was so looking forward to getting to know you and Tamshoo better as I went through my own hybrid hatchling experience.

I am truly sorry for your loss.....

I would like to thank everyone for their kind thoughts through all of this. It makes it easier to have people that know what I am going through here.

Thanks again,
Carole

Carole,
You have me deepest condolences. I have a 5 year old female Cyclura. She's not a "looker" like your tashmoo but a plain Cuban. I couldn't imagine not having her around. I'm sorry for your loss.

Take Care,
Frank Hayden

Oh my God Carole I am so sorry. My heart just sank when I read your post, I'm still in shock. I just saw Toshmoo in December, and I can't believe that she is gone. It was your help and visiting Tashmoo that inspired Maria and I to get Petros, who we love deeply and couldn't imagine loosing so young. Please let us know if Dr. Innis discovers anything else about her death. You were so supportive with Alamaya's passing and as difficult as that was for us I have to imagine that Tashmoo's unexpected death is tenfold for you. I can't tell you how terrible I feel. Take comfort in the fact that you were a wonderful mother to Tashmoo and that you did everything you could to provide her the best care possible. I'm glad that your husband, Pete, and all of your other reptile family are there to comfort you in your tragic loss. My most sincere condolences to you.
