well show mine. She shed tonight and appears to just gain length and not much girth but then again she is not on rats yet but she looks like she is in the neighborhood of 42 in length. The first pic is not right on color as I had to adjust for the real close flash washout but only kept it cuz it she had her forks sticking out. The second and third look very close but she is just a little deeper orange

If I need small rats then I have to raise them cuz I raise my own feeders. My work go some really small rats so I will them a try but I just think the rat I used was too big and she has mood swings, never struck but I feel her "uneasiness" at times. I have been trying to get a rat rack together using Dave's way but I'm just tapped out in five directions money wise and can't do it at the moment but have the water system supplies tubing, valves, shut-offs..... I feed fresh killed never live but twitching sometimes thanks for the compliments just wait for 3 or 4 more sheds and that yellow orange starts to lose that "baby yellow" and turns darker orange awesome to see first hand

very nice beautiful snakes!

so this is slightly off topic but to two best ways of feeing are pre killed and frozen thawed.... you feed pree killed or still twitching as you put it. just wondering but what are your methods of "pree killing"

I prefer with my mice, one pluck with my middle finger behind the neck like giving them whiplash and that all it takes for me. Rats I got about 14 heavy a-- flathead screwdriver (hit with handle side) but I always hit it two extra times behind the neck to make sure and I NEVER leave food unattended since I feed pre-killed. I raise my own rodents cuz right now after I get my pair from Dave I am at about 13 or so and I plan on picking up at least 4 next year from Dave maybe 5 if the budget allows for some thing hypo or het hypo and then I also need (lol need) about 5 more bci and a couple of bcc and I'm done with buying 'em with my own money now my snakes need to make babies so I can buy more snakes, more caging, more herpstats, then more snakes So it is much cheaper if you have the space and minimal time to clean and feed. I can't imagine buying frozen again but if the time comes I will and I also have a foodsaver which is a great thing to have if you frozen rodents and have a few snakes, need to seal up potato chips, steaks, etc.... Sorry it got long

lol no thats good. i do pretty much the same thing with mice a flick to the back of the head, and with rats something a little heavier so i use the back edge of a bowie knife lol. just my girlfriend thinks theres a better way, i didnt know if i was the only one who did it like that.

sounds like you have quite the list to fill over the next year or two good luck with that!

I use to have it vacuum sealed already and I would let it thaw at room temp not in the sun or anything like that for a couple of hours (prolly less time required I was using mice hoppers) and then once totally defrosted and I would put a glass bowl on top of bag under very hot water that I just kept running on top of itself to keep mixing up the water and after a few minutes I just present on tongs and sometimes I would have to reheat a couple if I couldn't get it in time and be very careful if you allow water to hit rodents fur as this will catch all the substrate it can carry in your snakes mouth so either dry thoroughly or feed in a tub or just don't have substrate use craft paper but when the snake bites the prey item you have ample enough time to remove anything from the rodent or move to a tub while they are constricting. Some feeders are very gentle just taking the rodent off the tongs like they have manners but in the end just do what ever is best for your setup and or the time slot allows. I use pine and haven't had any problems yet but I have also heard about the same problem with aspen also but if Jeff Ronne uses aspen with all his females in boaphiles and his snakes are really big in girth than it is okay for me to use. Also I think these are people that may be using f/t and got the fur wet so it is user error cuz how any times have you seen a dry rodent when picked bring substrate stuck to their dry fur on the way up, come on people. hope it helps

yeah i use the zoomeds repti bark which is fir for all my snakes. i feed them right in the cage (dont bother feeding in special tub). i feed pree killed dangling buy the tail because i dont have tongs but i should prolly get some. every now and then ill have a snake wrap up on one and get it in the water dish and pull it out while eating. i have seen substrate stuck but i watch it and it usually falls off befor sawolled.
