Record Size Beardie

Dydy4jamaica Jan 12, 2008 12:59 AM

Does any one kno the record size of a bearded dragon? cuz i have four bearded dragons all brothers and same blood line but one of them is probly the same size as his dad or bigger, he is 5.5 months and 18.5 inches growing at a rate about 1.5 inches every 10 - 15 days. secondly do all beardies burrow or supposed to burrow? i have never seen mine burrow and wondering if they are missing a part of their natural behaivors. they all are climbers never really hiding (tho there are plenty hide spots) and the only time they come from up high is if there is food.

One of mine hatched 8/8/07 is 20 1/2" and over 500 grams at barely 5 months old. He has surpassed both his mother and father in length already. He has a brother that is only 1/2" behind him. Sorry if I burst your bubble. lol.

nah my bubble isnt busted i jus find it funny how ppl say their average size is 18 and ours beat them numbers by so much. also i was told that beardies arent much climbers when they are adults. do u kno wat age they stop climbing or dont climb as much, cuz i thought that with the size they r now they should pass as adults and not doing the climbing thing, am i right?

Beardies and other reptiles can sense UVB and heat. They will climb thoughout their lives to get the UVB and heat they need. A good keeper will make it unnecessary for them to climb to get their basic necessities.

True but a good keeper also gives his reptiles an evironment that is similar to his natural habitat and allows ample exercise.

I disagree with this completely! They should have to climb to get exercise, trim their nails, etc. Should they also not have to chase their crickets? Do you rip the back legs off of every cricket you feed? You can achieve much higher levels of thermoregulation by utilizing raised basking spots, and I use these for terrestrial lizards!

Not sure of the record size, but most of the German Giant line of bearded dragons (dragons bred for size, but same as all other Inland bearded dragons) reach lengths of 24" or more. The largest I have heard of was around 25-26" and weighed over 1000g. He was owned by one of the old regular posters here...though their name eludes me now.

Hi all,
We currently have one that is 23" and over 900 grams. I would love to see some pics of larger dragons if anyone has them.
