Donation of a King to a nature center -

ECC Jan 12, 2008 06:58 AM

I donated one of the baby Maryland Eastern Kingsnakes to Fountain Rock Nature Center in Walkersville, MD this past week. I don't know about the rest of you - but I would give away as many snakes as requested - if the requests came from nature centers like this one. I met the park naturalist while I was at this place for a birthday party last November and offered her one of these babies at that time. She called me this week so I brought one over to her right away.
Below is the snake in its new enclosure:

Recognize some of the pictures and literature that the naturalist printed out and taped to the cage? I did. Here is a picture of the left side of the snake's new cage - already prepped for visitors (and you can see the king through the glass):

If you are in Frederick, MD or nearby you should consider visiting this place. They have several snakes and many more items to view. All of the snakes and turtles are in large, well-maintained, and easy to view enclosures... and it's free!

Hey we're very near Frederick also! Is there a website with a map?

Very nice Peter. I agree with donating if the center is well maintained and the keepers know basic reptile care. Anything that will further the general public's knowledge of snakes and help reduce unfounded fears and predjudices can only help.

Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

Wow! That's really cool. I've donated pets t my daughters class, but just for the school year. The nature center that I find myself at most often has a very large albino Cal. That little Eastern is really cool looking little King.
