Heat panels or flex watt

traceh Jan 12, 2008 04:12 PM

What would you guys recommend for heating python cages. I have 4' X 2' X 15" animal plastic cages for terrestrial pythons and can't decide to go with flex watt heat tape or radiant heat panels. I would use these with a ranco thermostat. I think the heat panels would mimic basking conditions better but they are a lot more expensive than flex watt. What do you think?

Flexwatt is cheap and easy, but the heat panels are nice because they heat from the inside of the enclosure, and because of that, I think they use less energy. (less wasted heat)

I use the heat panels with all of my arboreal pythons, and they're hard to beat!

If money were no object, I'd go with the heat panels all the way...

I'm using heat panels in all 3 of these:

For ground species, go for the heat tapes. You can give a nice thermal gradiant.
