Pinkie Mice

Howitser Jan 12, 2008 08:40 PM

Can panthers be fed an occasional pinkie? Probably not even once a month, but just wondering if they can digest them.

Thanks!

Howie

I've heard of people feeding this to their chams on rare (even less than once a month) occassion without issue. However I personally dont think its a great idea.

Thanks for the info/input! Decided against even trying it, his appetite & activity has picked up, guess he just had to get rid of ALL the parasites he might have had! If I think he needs to fatten up, I'll stick with wax worms!

I disagree. I have a friend who runs a exotic pet store and breeds. We donated a veil as he lost his breeding colony to a sudden cold snap. When we went to see our guy he was almost twice the size. He was already 1.5 y.o. so I couldn't believe it. He said he was feeding pinkies to the other animals and our cham got excited and he didn't even get it half-way into the cage before he hit it. He feeds his panthers occasional pinkies and they're large and healthy.

Thanks. I'm still up in the air about it, only problem is the pinkies I have are the frozen ones. I could wiggle one around & see if he'll hit it. If not, he still likes his feeder insects!

I'm curious to know how it worked out! Did you offer a thawed pinkie to your cham? Was it accepted? enjoyed? Any issues?

I actually never tried giving it to him. I had considered it cause he wasn't eating like he used to, but he went to the vet & after clearing up an eye issue & ridding him of parasites, he's been a champ with his food. Haven't totally rules it out though!
