Breeding question

NUCCIZ_BOAS Jan 13, 2008 12:34 PM

Last year I bred an arabesque het albino female to a sunglow male. Everything seemed to go perfect, bred for 2.5 months, female had a pre ovulation swell, I thought I even saw ovulation. I took pictures of her numerous swellings as well, they were obvious, but nothing ever came out of the pairing.....

So I talked around, and everybody in the region said they had similar results last year. Some blamed it on weird weather patterns???

Anyways, so far it is looking the same this season. Same exact male and female, have been breeding like CRAZY since October 12. The male goes hard for a week, takes 2 days off, on for a week, 2 days off. I seperated them a few times and fed the male, but reintroduced him and he goes right back to work. The female has been swelled (what I think is pre-ovulation) since mid-november. But she still has it and the male is still going..... What gives? It's been 3 months already, should I pull him and go to the next female who has been anxiously awaiting him, or should I leave him in hoping for an ovulation????? It just seems like if he's been breeding for 3 months non-stop the way he has, what more does he need to have the job done?
Thanks in advance
Tony

Hi, Tony!
I don't know what's happening, but if you think the problem wasn't either of the two snakes last year, I'd leave him in there. Either that, or decide which litter you'd rather have. If you're ready to risk pulling him out and getting nothing again for a shot with a new female, you could pull him.
What region of the country do you live in?
Good luck!
Aaron

well the other female I have for him is just a normal het albino, so needless to say I would rather have the arabesque female get the job taken care of. I live in the chicago area, and everybody I know in the region got stumped last season if they bred before december. Everybody claims to have seen ovulations and everything.
