New babies!

Gus_and_Madison Jan 13, 2008 05:14 PM

Hi! I just got two malis yesterday, Gus and Madison. They are the most beautiful, lovable pets I have ever owned! I got them from a guy who was moving and didn't have room/time to take care of them. They are really friendly and seem to be happy and healthy but Gus (the big one) has a crusty and tough patch on his back... The previous owner had them for four years and said this was just built up skin and not a big deal, but is there any way to get rid of it? If not, I still love him!

Watch that spot as it could also be the beginnings of skin mineralization. Treat that spot with "Shed Ease" or something similar to keep it soft till it sheds off. Don't force it but test it gently weekly once it's soft. You can also give him hot soaks once a week as well to soften it but dry it well afterwards.

Doug, where can one find "Shed Ease"? A couple of our ornates have "patches" that concern us. Thanks!

Most larger pet shops carry it. If you can't find it, a non-fragrant skin softener for hands works as well. Rub it in with a soft cloth and rub off any excess.

Bag Balm is the best - many grocery stores carry that in small tins now.
