Shoe box

livewire Jan 13, 2008 09:26 PM

I have a 40 gallon tank for a 2 month old b/p and I'm starting to think a 40 gallon is way too big for him cause he's not eating for 5 weeks now my temps are right and I have two hide boxes (one with moss in it for humidity)and I have not handled him for a few weeks. He always shys away from the food I try to offer him with hemostats and he just ignores it. Tonight I'm leaving the dead mice in front of his hide box over night and see how that works. So I'm thinking if I put him in a large shoe box (13x9x4 inches) and use a U.T.H for the heat on one end using a reohstat to keep it at 90 would that be ok for him?

The shoebox idea sounds great. 40 gal does tend to be too big for babies, so going with a smaller cage should turn the tables for you.

Good luck!

Remember this...There are a lot of books on caring for ball pythons and I suggest you buy and read them all. BUT neither of them may not cover YOUR snake when it comes to feeding. You have to do what your snake needs to be able to eat. That may take a lot of guessing. Some of mine would eat a sock if I threw it in the enclosure!! Some will only eat mice, some only like rats, some are scared of larger rats and need more smaller rats, some will only eat FT, I even have one that only wants to eat Ginuea Pigs...Has any of you ever heard of that? FT medium sized GP's, about the size of a large rat. They are all different and what works for mine may not work for yours and what works for yours may not work for anyone else, we can only give suggestions.
