Snake Muscle Tone

bigbodybussey Jan 13, 2008 09:34 PM

I have read and heard of people talking about a snakes muscle tone in relation to health? Mostly what I have read refers to boids, but my general question is what constitutes good muscle tone in a snake? What do you visually look for? What common problems does the presence of bad muscle tone indicate? What causes good versus bad muscle tone? Any pictures to show the difference would help a great deal.

Thanks

Bad muscle tone can be caused by the following, not in any order:
1. Too fat (just like in humans)
2. Too little exercise, too small a cage (just like in humans)
3. Improper heating
4. Too dehydrated
5. Old
6. Sick (just like in humans)

Bad muscle tone doesn't cause the above - it is a symptom of the above.

Good muscle tone in snakes is reasonable easy to feel. You can feel the muscles as the snake crawls through your hands, and the snake has a good strength as it does so.
