splendida morphs?

megalon Jan 14, 2008 12:46 PM

out of curiosity, just how many different g.splendida morphs are there?i'm contemplating getting back into colubrids, and i've always adored the desert kings.i was browsing the classifieds on ks today, just to get an idea of the price range that i'm looking at,when i noticed at least 3 morphs;albino, hypo, and regular.are there any others?

This reminds me of a joke. Okay, a baby stinkpot, a peninsula cooter and a yellow belly slider walk into a bar... aahh, I'm sure everyone's heard that one. Nevermind.

(Seriously, I have no idea what those are, do you have pictures?)

i do not know if some one is working into getting new morph of desert kings. i never had these kings but they are on my list.

Eddie these are the ssp of turtles and that's all i know lol.

elaphopeltishow Jan 14, 2008 02:43 PM

there are a few breeders that are working with double(possibly even triple het splendidas). most notably is Don Shores, who I need to also get in touch with as I am a fellow splendida enthusiast(among other things). I should be producing my first double hets (hypo, amel) in 2009. Pretty exciting and fun.

222 days to go(in case Dennis or Tony were reading this post)

crzyflsrepdennis Jan 16, 2008 11:42 AM

Of course Im reading your posts. Thats the only reason I come on the forum. I always enjoy a good laugh!!

Im going through wing and beer withdrawals! I hope this house gets fixed soon!

what would a sunglow splendida look like?also, whats the price range on axanthics?i've seen normals for $40,hypos for $75,and i've seen an albino for $200(all 2007).are they more expensive than albinos?i know that i want a hypo and a normal, and the albino is outta my price range, honestly.are the hypos and axanthics codominate or recessive?i'm sorry for all the questions,i just want to have the facts straight before buying anything.thanks!

Normals
Albinos
Hypos
Axanthics

I have those 4 in the pic (not a good pic). All Don Shores stock.

Albino/Hypo/ Axanthic are all simple recessive.

This year I will be breeding:
Hypo x Hypo
Albino x Albino
Axanthix x Axanthic
Axanthic x Hypo
Axanthic x Albino
In 2009 I will breed Hypo x Albino...thus breeding all double het combos possible....then on to triple and quad hets in the future.

I also have both Axanthics and will find out if they are the same gene in 2009.

It will be a while before yearlings or young adults will be available. 2008 babies will be available in Aug/Sep...and lots of double hets as the "special projects" are happening now.

I kept a female albino from 2006 and I kept 1.2 albinos in 2007. Giving a bredding group of 1.3 Albino splendidas. I still have the 1.1 het albinos.

I also have 1.2 hypos that I have been breeding for a few years.

And the 1.1 Axanthics that I got in 2006 and the 1.1 Axanthics that I got in 2007 (darker and bluer).

Here is a pic of a male Albino splendida that I produced in 2007.

Snows (albino-axanthic) Ghosts (hypo-axanthic) and Hybinos (albino-hypo) in 2010
