No POS???

boachris Jan 14, 2008 09:30 PM

Hey all,
I am wondering if anyone has any success stories of a good litter without a POS. My female ovulated for the second time on Dec. 30th and I have yet to see her go into blue. She is on the hot side most of the time in the HCP and, aside from no shed, everything seems fine. Each day without cloudy eyes makes me think there will not be a POS.
Please, don't just say "Dude, you're screwed!" I just want to know others experiences with this situation.
Thanks!

I've had no POS with successful litters. It's all just an "average" cycle, and there's definitely some that stray from the norm. Good luck!

That's a relief to hear! Thanks for the info.

Dude, you're NOT screwed ..lol. My friend and I each had a litter with no POS, and I had 1 stillborn and no slugs, and he had a perfect litter.
This is an Anery girl from this year that had no POS, and looking good. Two months to go. No worries.

Those are the kind of stories I like to hear!!! Now I have some hope. It just seemed like everything I find on the net said "yeah, I knew I was in trouble with this litter. She never gave me a POS..." I'm relieved now! LOL!

I've never experienced a no POS cycle myself, but have heard of it happening, with a successful litter following. BUT, I've never witnessed, or heard of 2 ovulations in one cycle until this last year, and only from reading it online many times. It still baffles me to be honest.

But I have witnessed, on more than one occasion, that some Boas will develop follicles on one side, than on the other at a bit of a later date, resulting in two independent swells (pre ovulation swells). I think this second swell is often mistaken as an ovulation many times, because it's being expected to occur.

I've talked with my vet about this, who bred a few species to help pay for his college, and from personal experience, and a medical standpoint, he seems to think ovulation occurs only once as well.

Sure would like to witness this myself some day. Sounds like an interesting experience if nothing else.

I guess my girl didn't read the manual! LOL. This is my first attempt at breeding, so I hope I'm reading all the signs correctly. I definately got two distinct ovulations which followed a huge whole lower body pre-ov swell. The ovulations were only 5 days apart. The swelling went down completely between. The ovulations were more centralized like the "football" whereas the pre-ov was spread out.
My male lost interest about 5 days before the first ovulation. It was more than losing interest...he wanted to force his face through the glass. Before that time, losing interest was just sleeping on the other side of the cage. The last time he would sit with his head at the top of the cage for hours and if I would open the cage, he would try to bolt. After two weeks of him doing this and both ovulations passing, I finally freed him to his own cage.

Thanks for looking.

I'm far from a pro myself when it comes to breeding them. Could be that I am mistaken. But I do find it pretty interesting. Maybe I'll get to see it for myself some day.

Thanks for the pics.

When one of my males was done, he escaped out of a key locked cage!!!!! Boaphile 421D with center key latch locked and key removed. I had left corner latch undone and he escaped by forcing the door open a little and wedging his body through the gap. I saw him escaping and managed to get a couple of pics....

Love 'em & leave 'em. I can't believe he got the rest of his body through the opening.
When are those babies due to arrive? Those are sure to be awesome with the color of your male!

My boas never have the POS and I have had good litters the last 4 years with very minimal slugs and stillborns. They just dont seem to follow the guidelines. I dont cool my snakes which may have something to do with it I'm not sure.

Well, she seems to think everything is going fine. She's basking in the heat and her temps are 87-90 depending on the spot. She's covered herself with a newspaper and just chills...er, warms...er, whatever.
Thanks for the positive experiences!
