Question--Need your help.

Hello all! What is the best way to heat a 40 gallon breeder (36"lx18"dx16"h)? I have been looking at getting a Zoo Med Slider hood (36"lx12"d) as it looks like it will cover enough of the screen top to help keep humidity in. What is everyone's opionion on this? Right now I'm just using the dome fixtures.

Use an appropriately sized UTH. If humidity is an issue, then cover the top with plexiglass. Lights tend to dry out the enclosure too much.

So, don't use overhead lights at all? And just use the UTH?

Unless your house is dropping below 70 degrees on a regular basis, you shouldn't need the overhead lights at all. A ball python sitting in a hide over the heat pad is a toasty and happy little snake.
