white mites

ecb Aug 26, 2003 10:42 AM

in the soil
should I be worried?
The red wrigglers are eating at the same area that the mites were
but they are VERY white, and TINY, almost to small to see if they were not white
there are also tiny little flies in there (maybe smaller than the fruit flies I used to experiment on in College), and she is eating them.
just making sure I M not heading to a house full of BUGS

are just that, they live in the soil and feed on decaying plant matter, shed skin, dead insects, and feces. If they get to dense you will see large clusters of them on the soil and possibly floating in the water. If they get to that point they may be a bit of a nuisance and you may want to dust with a mite powder. I have use the type marketed for use with birds. It is effective enough to keep them down to a tolerable level without hurting you dragon. Make sure you remove the live feeder dist first and remember that it is deactivated with water so you may need to do a couple of applications.
