indigo fans...help for conservation proj

DeanAlessandrini Jan 15, 2008 11:28 AM

I'm sure most of the "old timers" from this forum remember me but it's been a while since I have posted.

I am asking for help for a conservation project.

For any of you who have used or re-created the "indigo snake cage" that was manufactured by cagemaster, I was wondering if anyone has the design, a line drawing etc.

I still have a few of these cages, and can take photos, etc...but the drawings would make this much better.

I am consulting on a major indigo snake recovery program that will be under way very soon and, suffice to say...this information is greatly needed.

I wish I could tell you more, but the project it confidential at this time. Any help would be appreciated. I have actually been in contact with Greg Maxwell, the owner of the fomer company cagemaster, but he no longer has the design specs.

Thanks!
Dean Alessandrini

Hi Dean, I have just recently gotten back into Indigos after a 12 year hiatus. I miss the beasties alot. You sure Greg Maxwell doesnt have the cage specs any more? He's a good friend, and it is not like him to not have the specs saved somewhere in his archives. His cages are the best. He built me some gorgeous customs including 4 Indigo specific cages about 7 or 8 years ago along with 10 other customs that are just beautiful and great for display as well as everyday keeping. Wish I could help but the extent of my mechanical know how is to successfully change a burned out light bulb. I do hope to pick your and others brains on this forum as to breeding successes, as I am hoping the problems of 10-15 years ago have been figured out and corrected. My theory back then was that the lack of success year after year with breeding the Eastern Indigo was that maybe they were every OTHER year breeders in the wild and annual breeding stressed them. Not a far stretch given the enormous size and rough texture of the eggs, and that they are in a subtropical climate(most of the time anyway). Your thoughts?
