Smoothfront question

psusocr Aug 26, 2003 10:53 AM

as some of you know, my smoothfront is about 2 and a half to 3 feet now, and i was wondering if i ever find another smoothfront, but an older, larger , smoothfront, would i be able to house them together? My new cage is gigantic , thats why im thinking about getting another, plus i would really like another croc. Im askign because i understand these are terittorial animals, plus i dont knwo if sex is an issue, male/male, male/female ?? And will any other species get along with the smoothfront? i think from a previous post i asked this and i beleive theyw oudlnt but what do you think?
Thanks again
Bobby

i guess it really all varies on the caiman. sometimes you can put other speicies together with it working sometimes it won't. if you have a male now i wouldn't suggest getting another male to put with it due to territory. if you get a female smoothfront you'll most likely have a better chance. don't quote me on any of this i don't know from experience just from lost of research. good luck!

if anyone can correct or add to what i said please do

Thanks for responding kcaimen, and by the way ill send you some updated pics as soon as i finish his new pen, its gunna be real nice.
And raven i know you have two crocs/gators, what species are they? and obviously they get along since they live together but do you thik my 3-4 foot smoothfront would get along with a 3-4 foot american?
Thanks
Bobby

i was just think that maybe a dwarf caiman may be better to put with a smoothfront due to that these two caiman like faster moving water and i would think they might like it hotter? then A Alligators. i would think that dwarf caiman and smoothfront caiman have closer requirments then a smoothfront and an A Ally.
..just my thoughts.. again i don't know from experience so if anyone else on the forum would like to correct or change what i said please do

again good luck on your decision

I know a guy who has a breeding trio of Palps housed together. There are two males and a female and all are the same size, give or take an inch or two. They're mean as hell but get along in the same enclosure fine. I would imagine that smoothfronts would manage fine too. I personally wouldn't put two males together tho since they are more territorial at times... Hope that helps.
