Hey, could someone please provide some pointers. My kid wants to start a very small website to post gaming pics and tips, etc... & I would also like to utilize some of the server space to transfer snake related documents and pictures. I know alot of folks on here have their own sites.

What is the best way to set this up and could you please give me a brief rundown what is done? I am fairly computer saavy, and I have fooled around with web builder type programs, but I have never actually started a website before..?? I am (of course) concerned w/cost wise and I want it so he can edit the home page and manipulate the content as he wants. I would rather have a more stripped down version than one where someone else controls everything to make it easier. Please PM me if you do not want to post website names here or something.

Thanks, I really appreciate it!

~Alan

I started my kids out on the free Yahoo web service - which was pretty easy to use in conjunction with Frontpage - they also have web templates and easy to follow up load pages and file manager. The only down side was that you are limited to how much bandwidth per hour you could use - so if you uploaded a bunch of stuff and exceeded your alloted bandwidth you wouldn't be able to view it for an hour. If I remember correctly you got like 5 gb of space which they never even got close to filling.

Once they got a hang of the whole thing - I switched them to a GoDaddy account - I think the basic package including domain name cost like $40 a year - a little more complicated to work with - but no bandwidth shut downs and again it works well with Frontpage - the other down side is that I started getting a lot of spam crap after signing up.
