Eggs taking long time to develop!!

Lamiellm Jan 16, 2008 09:41 AM

This past leopard gecko season was horrible!! I had 44 eggs and not one hatch. I have a hold freexer set up to 85 degrees on the dot. does NOT go down NOR up. It stays at exactly 85. Well a have an egg thats about 3 weeks, pink interior but no veins. The other four I have right now are huge and yellow but I can see veins developing. Do you guys think that a lower temperature will make the hatch process longer? I've heard about 60 days for around 85 degrees. And I have heard warmer temps usually around 45 days just wondering your guys opinion! This is their first year breeding though so I am take into account for that. Thanks for any input!

85 is a good mid temp and you will get a mix of males and females. they should hatch closer to 50 days at that temp and I wouldn't stop incubating them until the ae obviously dead(moldy, stinky, deflated).

Just be patient and let nature work it's magic.

i had 4 eggs that i incubated last season at what i tried to make a constant 85. i got 75% males and 25% females. (I supposed my temps could have fluctuated toward the warmer side). I wouldn't worry about the development this early. Just let nature take its course. I know it is hard to wait, but as mentioned earlier, assume they are good eggs for as long as possible. I was also told by an experienced breeder to try to resist the urge to candle them each week. The breeder told me to candle once to see if they are fertile and then leave them alone till they hatch.. good luck.
