Best way to fatten up a skiny python?

Langi Aug 26, 2003 11:46 AM

All the pics I've seen of other peoples BPs made me notice that mine is deffinitly on the skiny side. I've been offering two small adult mice once a week but some times he dosen't eat them both and last week he didn't eat either. Should I offer him bigger mice? Or offer him mice more often? Thanks

I would suggest getting rid of the whole mouse idea. Feed your ball rats, they are more nutritious. From my experience, the balls that I have that eat mice and only mice, do not seem to grow at the same rate as my rat eaters. Try to get him eating rats.

How to fatten up a ball python? I think the answer definetly has something to do with feeding rats instead of mice. But I'd also say put them in a rack! I can't help but noticing that since I finished my rack a few months ago ALL of my ball pythons that now live in it are feeding VERY consistently. I think it probably just has a lot to do with how much easier it is for me to maintain perfect husbandry in a rack rather than displays. Displays and aquariums sometimes lead to fluctuating humidity or temps, but this doesn't happen nearly as much in the rack system.

Anyways, thanks to all for the help with the rack design a while back, I'm VERY happy with it!

accoeding to "the ball python manual" if you snake is eating and not gaining weight it is a sign of internal parasites. if you haven;t have your snake checked you should.
