I would first confirm what sexes you have. Were they cagemates before?

That's not mating. Just be sure that the one dragon is female and he doesn't do it too often.

chuckk93 Jan 17, 2008 10:19 AM

he dont do it to often maybe once or twice a day and i cheacked the web site you gave me and one is female she is on my shoulder right now shes real mellow and the other is a male he is active i let him out about a hr ago and he took off across my shoulder and on to the couch and was gone he stoped aftr he looked at evry spot in the room lol

You should post it on youtube and then post the address so others can look at it too. My home email is down right now (comcast is supposedly coming tonight) and I don't want to use my company email for videos.

The males show dominance to females by biting them on the back of the head. The female will generally flail her arms during this. Then he lets go satisfied in the knowledge that she knows who's boss.

If he mates her, after he bites her head he will tilt her body so that he can align his vent with hers. Mating is very short and lasts usually only a minute at most.

so i shouldnt seperate them right now or should i and did they look healthy? and my male assuming hes male becuse of beard turning black donsent have the two bumps above the vent he has nothing there not even 1?

BDlvr Jan 17, 2008 11:12 AM

Males and females can both turn their beards black. Generally the males get darker and turn black from the tip of their mouth down and onto their chest. Females often don't blacken their beards all the way to the tip or onto their chest. I find it inconclusive to use tail or head dimensions, or pores for sexing.

You could have 2 females. There is often false mating where one of the females takes the dominant role.

o ok ill check that out how do you tell with pores and head deminsions

BDlvr Jan 17, 2008 11:41 AM

It's worthless info. Some say males have bigger pores and wider heads but it is inconclusive at best. Some males have sleek heads that they say are a female trait and some females have a wide head which some say is a male trait. The femoral pores are about the same in young and middle age dragons. Males secrete a waxy substance from theirs that is used to mark their territory.

okay so how would i tell becuse if there the same sex i wanna seperate them

po Jan 17, 2008 02:03 PM

the vidio looks more like a fight then mating, if they didnt fight before it may be from the stress of moving, id keep an eye one it and if it continues separate them, beardies are pretty solitary in the wild from what ive been told, i used to house many together and i think now that most of mine are solo they are less stressed, only 2 are still together and they stay on oppisite sides of the tank most of the time.

i dont know if they did it before or not but if the fighting continues im seperating them my post under hey bdvlr above this one has a vidio i took today

PHLdyPayne Jan 18, 2008 04:33 AM

Looks like a dominance sort of fighting to me. I would separate them regardless, as a 55gal tank is barely big enough for a single bearded dragon, much less two.
