help with feeding

chipcount Jan 17, 2008 01:52 AM

my male ball python which is about 1300 grams wont and hasnt eaten since October. ive read online that sometimes males go off feed for a while but i feel that this is too long. he seems completely healthy, hasnt lost noticeable weight etc. He has access to a clean water dish, adequate space and hide area. I havent changed the food items or anything like that, but when i offer the rat, he just sniffs it and slithers away. Any suggestions on how i would be able to get him to eat? should i leave the PK rat in the tub over night? any input would be appreciated. Thanks
P.S. hes not an import, doesnt have mites

Tim's right. It's their breeding season right now and they generally go off feed during this time. I've got an old female that goes off in Sept. or Oct. every year and doesn't eat again till June the next year. As long as he's not loosing an appreciable amount of weight he'll be fine. Just wait him out.

Try a smaller rat or a mouse. Sometimes a mouse will get them going again, then you can put a rat back in next week and he'll get going.
