My Dying Beardie

ronl2008 Jan 17, 2008 01:30 PM

First of all, this is my first time posting on here in over 5 years when I first got Lex as a baby. He has had Metabolic Bone Disease basically since I've got him back in 2002. The past couple days he has been dying (he opens his eyes and moves every few hours or so to basically lay in another dying position and I say that because he is lying totally different to how he normally has been, along with not eating, not opening eyes, not opening eyes while I touch him or gently shake him, etc.) Its really sad and I'd like to know if anybody knows if he is in pain and what I could do to ease it if he is in pain ? Thank you all in the years past for any help.
Ron

if you think he is in pain and there is nothing left for you to try for him get to a vet and have him put down. its much better on him and on you then to watch him suffer. most vets dont charge much to put an animal down and most vets, reptile or not should be able to put down a beardie, i know it may sound bad but the best way for a vet that isnt good with herps would be to gas him down so hes not feeling anything and then give the euthanasia solution becuse its hard to hit veins if your not good at it, and that way he will not feel the sticking for a vein. i work at a small animal practice just cats and dogs and we put down my hedghog that way recently, we have even put down a chicken! that was no fun, but it what was best for the animal.
sorry for your loss

That sounds a lot like what our dragon does... She has been diagnosed with MBD (her previous owners let her free roam and she never got any UVB or calcium supplements). Our vet has prescribed her with this food called "critical care," and we syringe feed it to her 3cc/day, along with a 3cc/day of a calcium supplement. She seems to be looking up. Maybe with a vet visit and the correct extra TLC your little buddy could make a turn around.
Best of luck!
