D. Leucs Habitat

DKiM128 Aug 26, 2003 12:28 PM

I was setting up a habitat for D. Leucs, and then I realized, I don't know anything of their behavior, except they are bold and cheerful. I was setting up a pond, but will they even use the pond? I know that some dart frogs can't swim and drown in a pond. So I was wondering on your opinion. Also, I decided to use corkbark for the background, and den add some dried moss throughout the corkbark to make it look more realistic. Will, D. Leucs start climbing all over the walls, or will they remain on the ground. I am hoping that the D. Leucs will breed, and when they do, will they leave there tads in the pond, or the bromelaid, or will I have to physically remove them into a new habitat.

I have heard it is even more so true with Leucs than with Tincs; however, my Tincs absolutely love the new pond area that formed in my tank. When I designed my tank I left out a pond area in fear of them drowning but recently due to a clog in my drainage pipe a small pong formed and they spend most of their time in there now. If you do add a pond area just make sure that there are a lot of places the frogs can easily climb out of when they need to. Also, if you can get away with a fairly shallow pond area, do that. I have heard of several people say that their Leuc's would swim to the bottom of pond areas like Aquatic frogs. Would be cool to watch, but never sacrifice safety for "something cool".

As for climbing... they climb all the time. Up glass, etc.
