Kingsnake or Ball python

I have decided to get a snake and I've narrowed it down to these two, I would like any pros/cons(I dont want a snake that will bite my face off every time I take him out of the cage) or any information you could give me on these snakes. Though this will be my first snake I'm confident that I will not run into any serious problems because I have had dozens of herps over the years.

Personally I would choose the king. They are easier to maintain and aren't as likely to just stop eating on you. Balls can just be picky sometimes. As for temperment, buy from a breeder. They can tell you about each animal's habits as every snake will conduct itself different (much like humans). Andy

I'd take the king too. That's just my personal preference though, I like colubrids the best. I like their alertness, size, colors, and patterns. Neither snake is likely to bite your face off, although the king could be nippy. Just buy a CB hatchling and tame it, and you won't have any problems.

As long as you buy a CB, healthy hatchling, both snakes should be easy to care for.

Your decision also depends on wether or not you want a snake that you can sit with and not worry about him getting away while you're holding him (ball python) or if you like a more interactive snake (king). I initially was considering the ball, but decided that I wanted something more interactive. I'm considering a wide range of snakes including corns, kings, milks, rosy boas and rainbow boas. And, I am always all for captive born and bred snakes! Good luck and let us know how it goes!

i'm relatively new to snakes, considering ive only had my first one for about a month. its a gopher snake, im not sure if its a male/female[how do i find out?], and its pretty tame. i bought him froma petstore, they werent sure how old he was but we both thought about 6 months. hes about 3 feet[give or take a few inches]. i think pituophis make good starter snakes, although ive never had any other. ive heard cornsnakes make great starters.
