its natural behavior for bearded dragons to 'taste' things around them.

that was news to me I thought the Jacob's organ was specifically related to reptiles with a forked tounge which naturally aided transfering molecules of air to the organ by its shape!
BD's have forked tongues. Just not a very deep fork.
