Maybe a strange Q about substrate?

dbcrested Jan 17, 2008 11:25 PM

I have 2 crested geckos and I have had them in a 20 gall fish tank with the reptile carpet. Recently I got them a much larger reptile tank that has the fake back and the front that opens and so the crickets can't climb out out the back I got the coconut substrate. They really pounce on the crickets and I am afraid they are going to digest the stuff. Am I worried over nothing or is there something better? The Geckos are about 6 inches long and the local pet shop recommended it but watching them in action is making me wonder?

is your substrate patted down or fluffed up? make sure to pat it down and if they are still getting mouthfuls of it, try putting the crickets in a clear, tall, narrow glass or plastic container in the cage, or put the geckos in separate containers for feeding. then also you won't have to wonder how many crickets have been eaten and how many are running around the tank or dead or escaped somewhere.
