Thanks, Josh

you seem like you've hatched a few crestie eggs.
have you ever noted them to dimple before hatching ?
i've got one at day 89 or so that's been dimpled for about a week now, just wonderin' if it's normal. it's not moldy or smelly.
any info would be appreciated.
thanx, ck
btw- killer critters y'got there !
i know you weren't directing the question to me, before someone gets their panties in a bunch, but i have had one set of eggs do that, like someone had pushed their fingertip into the top of them. by the time i found out what that meant, it was too late and they eventually molded. it may be one of 2 things: an indication of impending hatching, or dehydration of the incubation medium. my guess would be the latter. what are you using, what type of container, how many holes, how many times do you open it, etc.? you can try adding a bit of water to it (don't get the eggs wet) and see if they plump back up. good luck!

don't wear undergarments, but thanx for the concern.
container is weighed every 7-10 days, water is added as required,
it's the same weight as when originally set up.

TMI! LOL (that wasn't mean for you anyway)
hmmm, never followed the weight method myself, don't know what to tell ya. how big is the dimple? has the other egg hatched yet?

Hi, It sounds like your eggs are going bad. If there is the right amount of moisture in the container then it may be something else. At the end of the breeding season, I'll get a few eggs that do the exact same thing as you described. I think it's dietary because the same parents produced eggs earlier that hatched. The parents get depleted and should be cooled for a couple of months to prevent them from laying eggs and to put weight back on. Crested eggs will usually sweat before they hatch. Equal parts by weight perlite/water is good for incubating them. I keep my eggs around 78-80 degrees, and they will hatch in a couple of months. Hope this answers your questions. Thanks, Josh
Thanks for the complements! Josh
thanx for gettin' back.
got the equal parts by weight thing. water/vermiculite.
got fluctuating temps in the 70's.
got a container that's sweating for about 2 weeks now, wasn't sweating at all before that. did you mean container will sweat, or the egg itself ?
ck
...and, the parents are currently cooling.
ck
Hi, the egg itself should have little beads of sweat on it right before it hatches. Cooling is really important for these guys. If not they will keep laying eggs until they crash. Thanks, Josh
thanx again for getting back, and for your observation.
ck
No problem! Good luck. Josh
