Do you see any Bolivian in this...

charmer Jan 19, 2008 03:14 AM

Just looking to see what others think, I picked this Het anery baby up from a friend... I posted him earlier as a 'new acquisition' I honestly noticed him for his floating saddles and reduced pattern, not to mention layers of pink... but I notice that his tail pattern is also very minimal, like a Bolivian. Do you think there may be some Amarali (sp?) in him, or that it is more likely an effect of the trait that caused his diminished pattern?
What do you think of him/her? (Haven't probed it yet.) Not bad for a normal het with no known background IMO! The only problem I have with him is that he had a bit of shed stuck under his chin, must have rubbed it raw at some point because I couldn't soak it off... even after a shed with me. Still working on that without pulling him off with it!

Thanks for looking and it's nice to hear what others think of my little acquisitions!

Rub Aloe on it every 12 hours until the old skin will rub off.

If he grows up short and stout he does. I can't tell for sure by the tail. I'm sure there are others more qualified.
To remove the shed, my suggestion would be to put some Neomycin Triple Antibiotic on it. Then try to pull it off next day. I've heard it said the Triple Antibiotic with pain reliever, is harmful to snakes. Don't know on that one.
The Aloe sounds like a good idea. And, mineral oil or Vaseline may work.

Boas are very variable. And with the morph projects there are a lot of mixed lineages.

That said, I do not see any Amarali traits in your boa.

I was hoping you were gonna comment on this thread Chris. Do you have any overhead shots of your orange crush girl to show the shape of the head? thanks if you do and thanks if you don'tlol best of luck this semester
Bob

Sorry, no overhead shots. And without a similar sized BCI to compare with, it doesn't do a terrible lot as a visual aid in pictures. In person it helps without a doubt, Amarali also have a lower profile head.

And the OC is a boy, but that's no biggie, lol.

By lower head profile, do you mean thickness, from underside of head to upper surface of head?

thanks Chris I do hope it is a girl too

Really appreciate the honest input, my friend that bred him and sold him to me noted the short tail and how it had seemed bolivian-ish, and that he had tried to reach the person who sold him the parents to find out if he knew their lineages... but no luck. I really don't care if there is or isn't, but was still curious to know if others had any ideas... Thanks!
I think it will turn out gorgeous anyway! And Thanks to everyone who had ideas to help with the shed... I will keep working on it!

When crossing two subspecies, you never know which physical attributes each offspring will inherit from each parent. Your boa certainly has a tail similar to many amarali. Just because the head shape is not similar to amarali, does not mean there is no amarali blood there. That baby could have inherited the amarali tail, but kept a Colombian BCI (for example) head shape. You do not always get a blending. I have seen breedings between subspecies in which some offspring highly resemble the mother, some the father, and some intermediately between the two. An amarali-esque tail does mean there is amarali blood though. BCI are extremely variable. Now for some pics. These kids are pure amarali.

Thanks Phil, I was under the impression that either it was a chance inheritance or a odd effect from the reduced saddle influence... but I would love to own PURE amarali's someday. They are amazing animals, especially yours! Thanks for the pics and post!
