jani feeding issue

geckoejon Jan 19, 2008 08:04 PM

i bought a pair of 07' northern mexican pines (deppei jani)aprox. 4 months ago. the male is doing great. eats 1-2 f/t fuzzies a week like clockwork. growing nicely.
the female is the "problem child". she will only eat live, and then only 1 a week, and then not consistantly. she skipps some weeks. she is half the size of the male. she doesn't look or act unhealthy, but the non eating worries me.
my question is is there any way to stimulate her appetite? also, do you have any advice on getting her to switch to f/t instead of live? thanks....

well, since no one else is taking this......i no longer keep jani but i remember a couple things about them. your female sounds like the normal [feeding] one to me believe it or not. they are slow growers & don't pig out as a rule. be very cautious about getting on the regurg train w/ this sub as it can easily become an express w/ no stop in sight. as far as switching her to f/t, you could wait a good week after a shed then offer a torn pinkie followed by a torn fuzz. she may find that irresistabe. good luck!

thanks for the feedback. i actually just got her to eat 2 pre-killed fuzzies. that was the first time she's eaten dead for me. she was in shed and went 2 weeks without. hopefully she'll stick with the prekilled. i'll see. thanks also on the confirmation of them being slow growers and picky eaters. i was told that before, but it's nice to get it confirmed. later....
