Little...okay, maybe a lot O/T

j3nnay Jan 19, 2008 10:06 PM

Just sharing some pics from work, and of my latest acquisition!

The store pet, Twister:

Red and Yellow Baby Green Tree Pythons

Setup:

And the prize... a female Usumbar Highland Baboon!

The setup is so pretty cause it's not like she'll be demolishing anything, and I'm SO not sticking my hand in there to try and take her out. The crickets she bites become paralyzed in a few seconds, and the one pinky she was offered was the same. She gets very agitated very fast (wish I had a picture of her in the deli cup - she kept attacking the lid), and is pretty much the angriest creature I have ever encountered.
Who wouldn't want one?

Wow, those are some cool baby gtp's. I had a young female at one point and they are some awesome animals. I traded her off for a very nice female pastel. I do kind of miss her because they are a showpiece that's for sure.
I don't know how you do it with the spider. Spiders scare the bejeezus out of me. I couldn't handle it, emotionally and physically That would be cool to watch it eat though.

Watching it eat is pretty awesome. Spiders freak me out too, notice that I got a species that can't be handled...mostly because I'm not gonna be touching it anyway! :D

I know what you mean. I would get a species that could kill me so that I would have an excuse not to hold it. Still, spiders and scorpions scare me to death. You'd think that spiders/scorpions go hand in hand with reptiles, but not for me. If I saw that sucker walking across my floor, I would need new shoes b/c I'd stomp that so fast it wouldn't know what hit it. Still, I have to say it is an awesome looking creature that deserves quite a bit of respect. Do you have any pics of it eating/killing prey?

Not yet, just brought her home tonight and letting her settle in for a while before offering her food here. She's freaking amazing though, so in a few days hopefully I'll have pics of that to share!

Those are pretty cool spiders. We've had a few at our store and they were fun to care for! I just set up our Goliath Bird Eater at the front of our store....those are fun too!!

Anyway, nice animals!! Good luck with them!

OBT's (Usambaras) are the craziest, psycho spiders on earth IMO. I used to have quite the tarantula collection, but sold all but one (my calm, slow b. smithi) as I couldn't even complete basic cage cleaning with out one virtually escaping and/or rolling on its back and launching its fangs at me! My only word of advice....never ever underestimate how fast an OBT can go!

I've had this girl since she was a half inch legspan! She is just about 7!

Is that a mexican red knee?

Needa brush up on my latin for these guys...

At the store when we last cleaned her delicup, she was literally biting through the plastic lid as we tried to scoop her out of the cup into the new, clean one. Crazy psycho spider!

god all mighty- spiders freak me out.
i have hives now- just from the pics.

when i worked at a pet store- i had one of those things come plum out of the cage to get me- i jumped and flug a BUCKET of crickets and fell down, kicking the stand that her cage was on, knocking the cage down- freeing her to come after me again- i went running and SCREAMING out of the reptile room- covered in crickets- which was freaking me out b/c they were in my hair- i didn't know if i'd shut the door behind me or not- so i thought she was still chasing me...

*shudder*

god i'll have nightmares for a month now...

on a happier note- L-O-V-E the monitor! they facinate me!
beautiful animals!

They're not all that bad. I'm pretty scared of actually holding spiders - if I take out a rose hair (the most docile tarantula ever) my hand starts to shake.

Twister the Black Throated Monitor is the awesomest lizard there ever was. He tolerates small children running up and patting his back, lets us all pick him up, and even walks to the front of the store into his daytime cage alllll by himself (that's what the pictures were of!). He's so awesome he can be hand fed eggs. Watching him eat them is quite entertaining as well.

Usumbara baboon was the worst thing I ever had...

crazy as all stuff too......

beware.........and they can run alot faster than you think,,,and apear to leap off the table end and actually just run around and be hiding under the table.right next to your face as you search for where it went.....then jump , running onto the floor as you try to get it from under table......I had a lucky catch on it at full run.....whew.....otherwise I would have never seen it again....

Yeahhhh...I put her in the cage and now I am never touching her again. :D

It's like having a pet piranha. You never stick your hand in there. Various tools, yes, but never your hand. And only through a small opening at the top while the tarantula is still a little slow moving from being a little chilly at night. Hah.
