Post-partum feeding?

odin22 Jan 20, 2008 10:36 AM

Greetings:
I posted this on the Boa forum too, but I welcome all input

Just cos I want to be ready...What's the correct amount to feed the mama after she has her babies, since she's presumably been off food for at least a month, and been on reduced food for 2-3 months before that? Start small? Go back to normal? Let her glut a bit?
Our last female was a bit of a pig usually. After delivering, she not only ate her usual RodentPro xxxl guinea pig, she acted like she would have eaten a second.
The female I'm asking about is a bit pickier. However, I'm getting concerned about the amount of backbone I'm starting to see. If she weren't due (hopefully) next weekend, I'd be trying to feed her this weekend. Since I think the babies are eating the weight off her, what would be correct feeding once she delivers?

Thank you
Antigone

Start with what you'd normally feed her. Once that goes through the system, feed as much as she'll take until she's back in condition.
