Anyone been cited, say in the last 10 years for herping in the Transpecos?
How was the overall encounter? peaceful or heated?
Stories welcome.

South Plains Reptile
In researching the documentary, I talked with a few law enforcment fellows (not on film unfortunately). One in particular told me that in his entire time in West Texas ( 9 years if I recall correctly) he had only given four tickets to snake hunters, and they were hunting in the park, AND they were all in the same group. He said they became belligerant when he approached them, so he ticketed them all.
When asked why so few ticket in such a long time, he replied," By and large reptile collectors follow the laws, buy licenses, and are friendly when approached, so I've had no reason."
Other info too if you want to PM.
In 2003 a friend was herping on the River Road. He didn't have a hunting license but was pulled over. He admitted to hunting and was cited. (This is a very funny story) We have video of this person saying he's hunted for over 20 years and has NEVER purchased a hunting license. The next day this person purchased his first hunting license and the ticket was dropped.
In 1998 2 persons were observed from Florida and Georgia receiving tickets in Langtry when a warden observed them spotlighting from their vehicle and running out to the cut to investigate. I pulled up in front of them and the warden yelled at me to go. "I said I am from Texas and I am hunting and I have a license." I told him that if he pulls that SH1T with me than he better be ready to do battle in court. I kept hunting that night and wasn't bothered. Unfortunately the two that were busted just paid the tickets and went back to their home state. I had breakfast with them before they left and I urged them to fight it. They didn't.
That is how Texas works. If you are out of state, chances are
you are more likely to get a ticket. Obviously this doesn't apply this year since I am sure the antics will be at an all time high for both Natives and out of staters.
I was pulled over by cervantes in the late 90s. He wasn't rude to me but I know he gave others a hard time. I have been pulled over by wardens on 277. They were nice. Spears is always cool.
We will all see... We will see...
Best Wishes,

Yeah, as long as we're naming names... Cervantes pulled Roy and I over 3 times in one night on my first trip to west texas. On the last and most memorable encounter he told us that, "The only good snake is a dead snake." Then he nearly ran over a large suboc as he pulled away.
