My Agressive Iguana

L10Nheart Jan 20, 2008 10:51 PM

I just recently rescued an iguana, and i have had experiences with them before, but never with one like this. When i attempt to touch him, he shakes his head vigorously, and it is basically impossible to handle him. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on breaking his aggressive and almost 'shy' habits. I would be very happy if someone replied and helped me out with this, because i am somewhat concerned. Thanks in advance!!!

Forgot to add that it is a 4'5" male iguana.

You said : "you just rescued". He doesn't know you
from Adam and is in a completely different environment.
I can tell you Iguanas HATE change! Even if it is change
for the better, they don't know it yet.

Give him lots of space and let him get adjusted before
you start handling him.

Thanks for taking him in
Linda

Be weary of this method. When i took in my girl she was very shy, so I followed advice like this, gave her space and time to adjust, now she is very aggresive, thrashing and biteing. I think i would have been better off keeping contact

Leather welding gloves for protection and consistant handling... (good fruits get brownie points) does he bite? if he bites dont be scared with the welding gloves just keep him away from your face. Suprised no one added more.
