Uggggh......ROCKY! Help me Jeff Clark!

coluberking25 Jan 21, 2008 03:54 PM

He's refusing his rat again. This is the 3rd time in the last 4 weeks he's refused. The first 2 times he was in shed. Yesterday I offered, he refused. He went potty though, so I tried again today. Still no acceptance.

I'm thinking maybe small rats on a weekly basis is too often and maybe I should just offer every other week. Jeff, how often do you feed your CRBs?

By the way he's about 4.5 feet and 2 years old. Gender is still undetermined.

Scott,
....Sounds okay so long as the snake is not losing much weight. Perhaps yours is a male? My male CRB eats only occasionally this time of year. Some years he only eats 15 or 18 medium rats the entire year. Adult females eat about twice as much. These snakes as adults eat pretty light compared to many other snakes. Young CRBs and reproducing females will eat VERY heavily. At 4.5 feet yours is probably finished with heavy eating and rapid growth and will grow slowly from now on.
Good luck,
Jeff

Doesn't seem to be losing weight. I'll get back to you on this. Thanks! I think this rat will be named Lucky!
