ATB not eating

burmeseman07 Jan 21, 2008 03:59 PM

I got my first ATB a month ago and i havent had any trouble with him yet. He was three weeks when i got him, and is now nine weeks old. He had already shed once when i bought him, and i think he is about to shed again. He was eating 2 pinkies a week until 2 or 3 weeks ago and he hasnt eaten since then. I have tried scenting with an anole i have tried lizard tails and even new born anoles, but he wont take. Any ideas on why hes not eating, is he due to shed soon? Anything would help. Thanks in advance,Jeremy

It could certainly be that it is about to shed soon again. ATBs can often be tricky to know exactly when they are going through a shed.

It also sounds like you are putting a lot of food down it. They are not an extremely high metabolism snake.

Even my babies that aren't eating well yet, are not losing more than a gram of weight over quite a long period of time. And they certainly do not have significant signs of malnutrition.

If your snake is loosing rapid weight, you might want to check into that and see if there is a parasite problem that is causing both the weight loss, and the loss of appetite.

Good luck

It sounds like you've had the snake for six weeks and for the first 3 weeks it took two pinkies each week correct? If it stopped feeding and then got dull colored it is going into shed and you shouldn't worry about it.

I have a snake right now who hasn't eaten in three weeks and is due to shed any day now so don't worry.

Don't stress out and try different ways to get it to eat. Use the method that worked before and keep trying it each week.
