Observation on POS......

rainbowsrus Jan 21, 2008 04:31 PM

One of my females just had her POS last night, she went through all the proper steps, like she'd been reading through Jeff's notes. Courting, copulation, pre-ov swell, ovulation and POS all between 10/31 and today so just over 2 ˝ months start to finish. The interesting point is, the motley males tore her up with all the spurring they were doing. Twin rows on either side at about a half inch off the ground. The outer scale surface was literally tattered. I was expecting the shed to be the same condition. But NO, the shed was a full one piece shed with no holes. Visibly at all the tattered areas there is a second layer that was shed. Probably all over like that just noticeable at the tore up areas. I wonder if this fits into explaining why some will have two POS sheds and even why some don't have any?

Her time line would have her shed not long after the introduction to the males so it's like she skipped a shed - hormones? IMO that's the layer that got tore up, the solid layer underneath being the next shed. Could some do the same but shed the layers one at a time? Or if you accept that the changes in hormones could cause a shed to skip, could the POS simply fuse with the next layer?

I'll try to get some macro's tonight showing the tattered areas with the full layer underneath. She is an albino so might be hard since the shed is so light colored.

keepin that data on all those brazilian's you have ? It could lead to some insight. Since you have so damn many of them you may put together a noticable pattern when compiled with everyone else whom is keeping track.
