Chondro Breeding season is going slow. Both of these pairs have been copulating like crazy and both females are off feed, but no further progress seems to be happening. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks Dave. Yeah, chondros are loaded with cool behaviors. This is called "blanketing". In this shot their not actually copulating and didn't at all on that particular night. Many times, the male will just cover the female as if he's guarding her.

very cool i wish you the best of the best luck on success with the condros what locals are they? the first pic looks to be sorong and biak but im sure im wrong lol you must post pics of eggs and pipping if you have luck with them

Thanks Tim,

The animals in the first pick are mostly mainland blood. The female (Morel) has some Aru in her. In the second pic, it's all mainland blood, but I don't know the locales.

That's a beautiful chondro. Classic Sorong-type markings. If it's a male, I've got a female that would match up nice with him.

I'm raising up some animals for future breeding projects. The first is a female I got from Andrew Kelly. She's from an extreme high yellow pairing. Her name is Primavera. The second is from Greg Maxwell's Pepper x Merauk outcross clutch of 2006. I believe she's also a she. It's possible she's carrying the albino gene. Greg is trying to prove her father this year. Her name is Mint Chip. She's a cool minty blue-green color that doesn't come across well in photos. The third animal was a real steal. He's a designer chondro if I've ever seen one but I paid nowhere near the designer price. I hope to pair him up with Mint Chip in a couple of years to produce some highly melanistic chondros. His name is Chondryno-Mite.

There's really no limit to the desireable traits in Chondros. They come in such a variety of colors. I have no idea of the background of the third animal pictured but he doesn't match the appearance of any known locale. What I really like about him are the yellow triangles on his back. These are normally green or blue. The black speckling or "mite phasing" is also something that we don't commonly see in locale-type animals.

I haven't shown her off in a while so here is Cocoa. She's an anery who is also 100% het for hypo. She's a very rare snake. Only her and her sister as far as I know.

Cocoa

Here are some of my hypos. Anyone who has seen several of these snakes knows that there is quite a bit of variety in their coloration. To me, these snakes represent what I'm trying to achieve with my breeding projects. I'm partial to the firey coloration of Mars and Minerva and also to the pastel peach colors of another hypo I have. I have another hypo who isn't pictured who is more of a pastel yellow. Attractive in her own right. Just not quite like these. Again, no camera tricks. These animals are very accurately represented here.

Mars (in shed)

Mars and his future mate, Minerva. She is absolutely breathtaking

Here is Minerva by herself. Can you see why I like her?

There are a couple other snakes I'd like to share but they're not being very cooperative right now. I'll just have to save them for a future post. Enjoy!

Speaking of singing, those yellow canary chondros are from Kafiau. Yes, some high yellow lines of chondros come from Biak stock, but many of them resulted from the spntaneous appearance of high yellow animals from mainland ones. I think I read this in Maxwell's book.

The focus is on Ball pythons but much of the information can be used to generate insight inot other snake species.
