I originally built this vivarium to house some juvenile dune geckos (S. sthenodactylus). As the geckos are nearing breeding age I moved them out and into a setup where I would be able to recover eggs, so it was empty for a while.
Although I originally planed to create a desert viv, it ended up with more of a montain look then I was originally going for. Probably a function of the lichens on the rocks (which came from the rocky mountains)
Anyway, I decided to put a baby cal king in it to see how he would do. For about a month I never saw him. The only way I knew he was alive was that the pinkies would disappear overnight. I was actually starting to worry about how I was going to get him out of the tank without risking crushing him. Then last week I saw his nose poking for the first time. Since then he has ventured farther out every evening. Tonight I caught him with the camera, all the way exposed and exploring for the first time...and it looked awesome.
The snake is a local specific Sacramento county male that is het for hypo, from Shannon.
I know, I know, I need a better water bowl.
